Biology and Management of Wild Buckwheat
GWC 10
Heavy reliance on glyphosate for weed control has resulted in a serious concern for the long-term viability of this weed management tool and the development of weeds resistant to glyphosate.“Wild buckwheat has become a serious problem in the Plains and Upper Great Plains,” the authors write in the introduction. “Although herbicide resistance has not been documented for wild buckwheat, high populatios of this weed species endemic throughout the region and the weed's natural tolerance to glyphosate may increase its prevalence in locations of high glyphosate use.”
This publication addresses the biological characteristics of wild buckwheat that make it particularly troublesome to control in agronomic crops and provides management strategies to help growers manage it. It was written by Extension specialists from North Dakota, South Dakota and Kansas State universities and reviewed by a national team of Extension specialists. It was published by Purdue University as part of the Glyphosate, Weeds and Crops Series.
