Western bean cutworm is a sporadic, but sometimes major pest of corn. To help farmers determine when treatment is warranted, specialists at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and University of Minnesota joined to develop a new decision aid tool. This Excel® spreadsheet uses the speed scouting method, which can cut the number of plants that need to be counted in a given field from 100 to about 50.

This spreadsheet also includes photos of several types of western bean cutworm eggs, including just laid, ready to hatch, just hatched, and processed to aid in identification and counting.
